The Canada Greener Homes Loan is still OPEN to new applicants!
Despite the recent closure of the Greener Homes Grant, the loan portion remains open and available to new applicants interested in pursuing energy-efficient upgrades for their homes. The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers interest-free financing to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient, including the installation of a solar system to offset electricity costs.
Eligibility:
- You must own your home, and it must be your primary residence.
- You have completed a pre-retrofit evaluation on or after April 1, 2020, and have not yet had a post-retrofit evaluation.
- You have not started retrofits for which you are seeking the loan.
- You have a good credit history and are not in:
- a consumer proposal
- an orderly payment of debt program
- a bankruptcy or equivalent insolvency proceeding
How it Works:
- Register and create an account through the Greener Homes online portal.
- Contact our team to receive a free quote & estimate for your solar project.
- Have an approved evaluator perform a pre-retrofit evaluation on your home. The evaluator will then upload reports to your online portal.
- The program will then review your reports and, once complete, the loan application will become available through that same portal.
- Complete your Greener Homes Loan application and provide them with our quote.
- Following loan approval, you can purchase and install your solar system. Be sure to keep copies of all invoices & receipts pertaining to your project.
- Once the project is completed and energized, schedule the post-retrofit evaluation. The evaluator will once again upload their reports to your online portal.
- Provide the program with your receipts & invoices, then receive your loan based on final costs within 10 business days.
It is important to note that the loan is issued after project completion, so you must have funds available upfront to pay for the cost of materials and installation. Once the project is completed and a post-retrofit evaluation has been performed, the loan will be issued based on final costs verified through your invoices & receipts.
